Your face stays on your phone.
Last updated 26 July 2026
The short version: Mirravela analyzes your face entirely on your device. Your photos are never uploaded. There is no server that holds your face. The only things that ever leave your phone are anonymous usage and product-research events, which you can turn off, and a text-and-numbers-only request if you use the Coach or the product scanner. We never sell your data and never train AI on your images.
What stays on your device, always
Every face scan, the images behind it, your Skin Score, your Skin Map, your history, and all the analysis that produces them are computed and stored only on your iPhone. They are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no cloud copy.
What we collect
- Anonymous usage analytics. To understand which features actually help, we record a small set of product events (for example: a scan happened, a report was shared). These are not linked to your identity and contain no images, scores, or health data. Analytics is on by default and you can turn it off anytime in Settings.
- Anonymous product research. If you use the Routine Lab, the skincare products on your shelf and whether they measurably worked (product names, when in your routine you use them, and trial outcomes: names and numbers, never images, never anything about your face) contribute to anonymous, aggregate research on what actually works in skincare. These events travel under a random research id that is not linked to your identity or to anything else we operate, and timestamps are kept to the day. Deleting your data in the app also deletes the events stored under your research id from our server; research findings only ever leave that store as aggregate statistics, which contain nothing individual. On by default; turn it off anytime in Settings.
- Your email, only if you give it. If you request early access on this website, we store the email you enter so we can contact you about it. Nothing else.
What leaves your phone, and why
- The Skin Coach. When you ask the Coach a question, we send a numbers-only summary of your data (never images) to our own server, which relays it to a large language model running on AWS to generate the reply.
- The product scanner. When you scan a skincare product, only the text read from the label is sent to our server to identify the product and its ingredients. The photo is discarded on your device and never uploaded.
- Product research events. If product research is on, anonymous shelf events (a product was added, dropped, or finished a trial) are sent under a random research id. Names and numbers only, never images, never anything about your face.
That is the complete list of what leaves your phone. Mirravela does not use your location, has no advertising or tracking partners, and shares your data with no third party for their own purposes.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Mirravela reads sleep, cycle, water, and workout summaries to look for what moves your skin. This is read-only, used on-device, and never transmitted. Mirravela never writes to Apple Health.
Permissions we ask for
- Camera: to take your daily scan, and to read the label on a skincare product. Images stay on the device.
- Photos: only if you choose to import a photo to scan, or to save a card you are sharing. We never read your photo library on our own.
Mirravela never asks for Face ID or Touch ID permission. The app needs an iPhone with a Face ID camera only because the scan uses that camera's depth sensor.
Your controls
- Export everything, anytime, from Settings (JSON + your images).
- Delete everything, instantly. Settings → Delete all data erases everything on the device and deletes the research events stored under your random research id from our server. (Deleting the app erases everything on the device too.)
- Remove your early-access email by emailing us (below).
We never sell or train on your data
We do not sell your data to anyone, and we never use your images to train AI models. Ever.
Children
Mirravela is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for anything material, note it in the app.
